about
Sebastian Frisch
Sebastian Frisch is a storyteller whose artworks invite the audience to experience the poetic aspects of their surroundings. He holds a BA in Sound Art and a BSc in Augmented Reality and Game, graduating in 2014 from the ArtScience Master’s program at the Royal Conservatory and the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague.

Sebastian's research spans spatial listening, (bio)acoustic processes, and multi-sensory environments. As an artist, musician, and developer, he interweaves natural processes with digitally crafted components to create hybrid instruments. His works serve as reference experiences, offering insights that can enrich daily life and reveal the intricate details of the world around us.

Sebastian is a project manager at V2_, Lab for the Unstable Media in Rotterdam. He organises the Open_Lab format, manages residencies, and guides various projects in the Lab. Sebastian began working on SPASM 4 Live during his internship in 2011 and continues to advance the project's development to this day.

Workshop:
This workshop explores human spatial hearing and its creative application in computer music. Beginning with the “park experience,” participants will reflect on how acoustic environments influence perception. Following an introduction to spatial listening modes, psychoacoustic theory, and examples of spatial composition, participants will engage hands-on with SPASM 4 Live to create their own headphone-based sound environments. A key feature of the workshop is a live tracking system that reconnects headphone soundscapes with physical movement: sounds can be explored by walking through space using body and head tracking. No prior experience is required. Please bring your laptop (Ableton Live 9 + Max for Live) and headphones.
