about
Davit Sukiasyan
Davit Sukiasyan, primarily known as Hopdop, is one of the key players in the Armenian electronic music community. He co-founded Loopdeville festival and Poligraf club — institutions that shaped the local electronic music scene.
Beyond the decks, Davit is a dedicated sound explorer and storyteller. His artistic practice investigates how to forge new sonic territories by merging organic, earth-felt textures with futuristic synthesis. This exploration extends to his collaborative projects with Arto Tuncboyaciyan.
As a creator and tool-builder, Davit is committed to empowering others through music and innovation. In 2024, Davit co-founded Cyber Folk — a project focused on providing local offline music education and fostering creative collaboration. Within the project, he develops tools and learning experiences for both local and international communities, bridging his role as a performer with his passion for mentorship, innovation, and accessible music technology.

Workshop:
How can we create entirely new sounds that feel both timeless and futuristic?

This workshop explores that question directly, by treating traditional and folk recordings not as fixed relics, but as powerful raw material for modern sound design. Led by artist and creator Davit Sukiasyan, this session dives into the core idea of "Cyber Folk"—a creative mindset that connects the feeling of the past with the technological possibilities of the future.

This is not a history lesson; it's a live look into a new creation process. We'll explore how modern synthesis techniques can transform the emotion and texture of a sound into something completely original.

This session is a live demonstration and interactive talk. It starts with a 5-minute introduction to Davit, the workshop's flow, and the "Cyber Folk" concept. Davit will then introduce the sound library for the session—a collection of Armenian woodwind recordings, percussion, cello, and more—and discuss the creative ethics of using this source material.

The main part of the session will be a live, on-the-fly creation process. Davit will demonstrate how to transform these recordings into unique, playable digital instruments using techniques from granular synthesis and sampling to spectral and wavetable-based synthesis. While this is not a hands-on session for participants, it is highly interactive.

The audience will witness the process unfold and be invited to ask questions as Davit sculpts sounds in real-time. This direct demonstration makes the connection between a field recording and a futuristic instrument tangible and inspiring. Participants will leave with a new perspective and practical ideas for their own sound exploration.
