A Public Discussion on the Role of Performing Arts Today
In the discussion “What’s the Point of It All?”, participants from various countries and cultural backgrounds will share how they currently understand the purpose and role of the performing arts. Does it serve a social mission? If so, what does that entail? How does the landscape of independent art shift depending on political, economic, and cultural contexts?

We’ll explore the tension between an artist’s inner drive and external demands — from audiences and institutions. We’ll talk about disappointment and hope, about responsibility, meaning, and the absence of it.
Discussion Participants:
Pooya Jafari, assistant director of the Body Pain theatre (Iran)
Anahit Ghazaryan, writer and dramaturge
Alexander Plotnikov, theatre director, writer
Ilya Moshchitsky – co-curator of Chronofest, theater director.
Gritt Uldall-Jessen, independent playwright and AD of Det Frie Felts Festival/ Selected Works — a festival dedicated to the independent field of performing arts in Denmark.

Moderator:
Andriesh Gandrabur - Programme and Vision Lead at hosq
